Overview

Based on the historical character Caius Martius

Coriolanus (sometimes Gaius Marcius or Gnaeus

Mrtius), Coriolanus is one of Shakespeare’s tragedies

and is also characterized as one of Shakespeare’s

Roman-themed plays which also include Antony and

Cleopatra and Julius Caesar. Plutarch’s (1st or 2nd

Century AD) work, The Life of Caius Martius Coriolanus (itself a part of Parallel Lives), serves as the basis of the story.
